I bet that if you had access to TV as a kid, you have experienced at least one Disney Channel Original Movie, also known as a “DCOM.” I remember turning on the Disney Channel after I got home from school to see what I could catch. Today, I am going to rank the top three DCOMs that left an impression on me and my view on the world.
Coming in at #3 is “High School Musical 2,” released in 2007. It’s the most realistic out of any of them. It showcases high schoolers getting summer jobs to save up for college, and it’s quite relatable to teenagers. The songs are so iconic that you hear them one time and they stick forever. Lastly, this movie stands out because the style of clothing that every character wears is so good, I want to be all of them combined in one person.
The #2 DCOM is “Lemonade Mouth,” which came out in 2011. Even if it’s sort of unrealistic, the story is so good and sucks you in every time. I have watched this movie over 20 times, but even now, I sit down and pay attention through the entire thing. I love the story about a group of people coming together over a common cause, creating a true friendship. Every single song in the movie is a banger. I have a specific playlist where I pick only my favorites out of a movie, but every song from this movie is on my playlist. I think that the songs went really well with the story as a whole.
My #1 pick out of any DCOM, is the 2012 movie starring Tyler James Williams, Coco Jones and Trevor Jackson, the rap banger that is “Let It Shine.” Out of all of the movies that I talked about, this one is the most realistic, and I think that the music in this movie is the best that’s ever come out of Disney Channel. I love the story about Cyrus, and his escape from life being music. At the displeasure of his father, he pursues his rap career. This movie also pushes the limits of friendship, especially between Cyrus and his best friend, Kris. Now for the music, let me just say every song that Coco Jones has ever sung has me absolutely enraptured. I think that my favorite song out of the entire movie is probably “Me And You,” a duet between Cyrus and Roxie, where it reveals Cyrus’s betrayal, yet where he picks forgiveness in the same moment. This movie is a must-see, because I love it so much.
