Here is more good news for you to smile about, and your reminder that it is healthy to find hope and good in the world!
Your first piece of good news takes place at Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC), at their Queens location. In response to a viral AI video that depicted dogs choosing their owners, the ACC decided to make it real. They organized an event titled “Love At First Wag,” where shelter dogs wandered amongst people and chose their new family. Chosen families then received a goody bag from Bushwick Bark, a local pet shop in NYC, which included a 10 percent discount for their shop. The event went viral, and the ACC brought it back by popular demand.

Your second piece of good news is about treatment for endometriosis. According to the Mayo Clinic, endometriosis is an “often-painful condition in which tissue that is similar to the inner lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.” It causes a list of complications, so it is necessary to receive treatment, but women’s reproductive health has been largely ignored throughout history. Mobolaji Akande, a Salem student, commented that she feels “like more focus and research should go into endometriosis.” Luckily, Yale researchers are looking into how to improve treatment for endometriosis. According to a Yale School of Medicine (YSM) article, the first treatment for endometriosis is commonly progesterone-based birth control, but a third of patients “fail this therapy” because of its side effects or ineffectiveness. To detect if a patient will respond well to this treatment, YSM researchers are now developing a test “that uses epigenetic markers in white blood cells to identify” which patients will or will not respond to progesterone treatment. One of the head researchers, Hugh Taylor, commented that he’d “rather get [patients] the best treatment right away,” instead of making “them suffer for a few more months” on ineffective birth control.
From shelter dogs finding homes to improving treatment for endometriosis, good news can be found everywhere! Go out and look for it!
