I have always had a problem with medical shows because I’m the kind of person who wants to see the actual medicine, not the drama. I have found the perfect show that stimulates my need to see the actual medical process, and that show is HBO’s “The Pitt.”
According to HBO Max’s website “The Pitt,” is a show created by R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells, and Noah Wyle. This trio previously worked on another medical drama called ER, back in the 1990s.
The show stars Wyle, as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinovich, as well as an ensemble, all starring as doctors or nurses within the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, also known as The Pitt. Although the show has an ensemble, the story is mainly focused on Dr. Robby and his journey. It should be known that every episode of the season is an hour of the crew’s shift within the ER. The first episode starts at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 8:00 a.m. the next day.
Throughout the season, we saw so many aspects of the lives of the ER staff. I love the first season. I finished it in two days. There is so much chaos, yet it is so easy to follow the story because of the show’s style. There’s so much emotion that is involved in the first season, so much that pulls at a viewer’s heartstrings.
Now, as for the characters, they all go through a journey within the season, even though it’s only a day out of their life. Jack Abbott has been my favorite character from the beginning and will always be my favorite. Shawn Hatosy was amazing in “Animal Kingdom,” and I was excited to see him in something new. Abbott brings comedic relief that is needed in many moments.
Season 2 is the same premise as season 1, yet it’s a time skip of 10 months. This shift features Robby working his last shift before taking three months sabbatical and the return of Langdon, who was dismissed in season 1 because of his struggles with drug addiction. It also follows King and Ellis reeling from giving depositions for a lawsuit against them, a case that happened in season 1. Even though it’s unfinished, I love season 2. I think my favorite character this season is Whitaker. It was his first day during season 1, in season 2, you can truly see his growth.
