I love my home state. I love the things other people probably don’t: the warm air, a sweltering UV of 8, well water (water that comes from a well), and laying in the grass of my front yard. This year was a short spring break, since I had to be back on campus for a beach volleyball tournament. But my time at home, while short lived, was more than enough. I drove home Friday morning after finishing my Biodiversity class at 9:20. From there, it was just me and my car racing to cut down the time google maps said it would take to get home (I didn’t cut any time off sadly). I got home right at 8:45 pm and enjoyed a nice homemade hamburger. Did I mention my parents are really good cooks? A home cooked meal always hits differently, and I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner.
The thing I enjoyed the most over break was cooking for myself. So I really only cooked breakfast but I seriously missed eating eggs. Eggs that did not come from the Rat. I also got to go to church and see all my neighbors who I haven’t seen since Christmas break. However the two most important things I accomplished were seeing my family and my animals. Being away from home is tough enough, but I miss my dogs, my peacocks, my outside dogs, and the chickens. Of course I missed my family too, it’s just they can facetime. Dogs on the other hand… they don’t understand how facetime works. I also got to watch my sister’s beach volleyball game!! Woohoo!! Florida High took the dub and I got to hang out with all my teammates from last year, which made me feel bittersweet.
I also had time to clean my room which is more of a therapeutic thing for me if anything. I like having things clean, but cleaning my room helps me destress and unwind. I also brought a lot of my clothes and other amenities home. I am a chronic over packer and that did translate into my college packing. So a bunch of unnecessary t-shirts and jeans were once again at home in their drawers. This is really going to help in the long run when I leave for the summer… Whatever you are doing over the break, whether staying home like me, not leaving campus at all, or going on a real vacation, enjoy it. Midterms were a beast and we all deserve to have a reset before the last stretch of the semester. I hope your spring break was as good as mine, if not better!
