Mitch Landrieu, the former Democratic Mayor of New Orleans and Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana, might be soft launching a campaign for President come 2028.
According to a recent article from CNN written by Edward-Isaac Dovere titled, “Mitch Landrieu for president? The former New Orleans mayor wants to test the 2028 waters”, Mitch Landrieu recently spoke to a group of Young Democrats for America at a Democratic National Committee meeting earlier this April, in a candid speech that hinted at a possible Presidential run in the near future.
Son of Moon Landrieu, the former Mayor of New Orleans during the 1970s, Mitch Landrieu is an unexpected, but qualified, possible Democratic candidate for President in the 2028 race. As Mayor of New Orleans five years after Hurricane Katrina, Landrieu dealt with the severe aftermath of what was one of the most eye-opening natural disasters in recent United States history.
In October of 2024, a month before the Presidential Election, I sat in on a press conference held by the Harris-Walz campaign that featured Mitch Landrieu as a panelist. At the time, Landrieu was serving as campaign co-chair for the Harris-Walz campaign. Despite this high-profile position, Landrieu is virtually unknown as a leader within the Democratic Party.
However, could an unknown name and new face be just what the Democratic Party needs to secure a win for the White House?
As more developments surrounding possible candidates for the 2028 Presidential race arise, The Salemite will continue to report.
