On Friday, April 10, the Artemis II crew safely made their journey back to Earth. According to Marcia Dunn at AP News, The Artemis II crew was made up of commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, Christian Koch and Canadian Space Agency’s Jeremy Hansen. NASA reports that the journey was meant to gain information on how NASA can operate future missions to the Moon. The journey included a lunar flyby in which photos of a solar eclipse and the lunar surface were captured.
After undergoing a record-setting mission in space, Jennifer M. Dooren at NASA reported that the astronauts experienced a safe descent, touchdown, and recovery back on Earth. The capsule and crew landed in the Pacific Ocean and were immediately met with both a combined NASA and United States military team to ensure their safety after the journey. Information and knowledge obtained during this ten-day exploration will allow NASA to continue their preparation for Artemis III set for next year and for the increasingly difficult missions to further space knowledge.
