On the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 18, a large group of students gathered around the fireplace hearth in the Student Center. Drawn in by the soft glow of the fire and wafting scent of warm herbal tea, they found a cozy atmosphere, free from the looming stress of finals. Hosted by The Circle, our campus’s Earth-based spiritual club, the event attracted a mix of students interested in learning more about tarot and mindful connection.
Tarot is a form of divination using a set of seventy-eight cards that are divided into two groups: the Major and Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana denote important life events, while the Minor Arcana represent smaller-scale experiences. Students hoping for insight into their past, present, and future gathered around the center of the room where the president of the club, Izzie Menius, provided an interpretation of the cards to students looking for guidance on their love lives, fluctuating friendships, and aggravating assignments. As they waited for their readings, students wandered over near the fire where a table stood supporting a selection of teas, ranging from chamomile to lemon pomegranate.
Laughter, quiet conversation, and curiosity blended together, turning the event into a warm communal space—a necessary reminder that even in the busiest part of the semester, there’s always time for tea.
