Harris believes that women should have full access to abortion and fertility options. According to the Washington Post, she said that she would sign a national abortion rights bill if it passes Congress.
Trump’s stance is to leave abortion rights up to the states, but would not support a nationwide ban. He also took credit for the overturn of Roe v. Wade, claiming, “I was able to kill Roe v. Wade.” According to NBC News, Trump revealed a plan for IVF that would make the federal government or insurance companies pay the rounds instead of the women and couples.
Harris: In 2019, as a presidential candidate, Harris revealed a $10 trillion climate plan to promote renewable energy. When she was a California attorney general, she persecuted oil companies. In 2022, she voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, which aims to lower greenhouse gas emissions. However, during a CNN interview, Harris said she “will not ban fracking.” Her campaign also told Axios that Harris does not support an electric vehicle mandate. Harris has not released an official climate change plan.
Trump: According to CBS News, Trump has vowed to unlock new lands for drilling, expedite drilling permits, and other initiatives. Trump pulled the US out of the Paris climate agreement and told Fox News that “One of the things that’s so bad for us is environmental agencies. They make it impossible to do anything.” Trump has not released an official climate change plan.
Gun Control:
Harris: According to Harris’ official website, if elected, she’ll ban assault weapons, require background checks, and support red flag gun laws.
Trump: According to the Washington Post, Trump has distanced himself from previous statements supporting background checks and red flag laws. He also supports immunity for gunmakers which saves them from being sued, and proposed a tax credit for teachers who want to conceal carry in schools.
Health Care:
Harris: According to Harris’ official website, Harris believes that health care is a right and wants to strengthen the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”). She aims to lower drug prices and cancel millions of dollars of medical debt.
Trump: Trump has repeatedly criticized Obamacare and said that it was “lousy health care” during the debate. According to ABC News, Trump’s campaign released a statement to them saying “he will release more details but his overall position on healthcare remains the same: bring down costs and increase quality of care by improving competition in the marketplace.”
