The Salem community came together jubilantly on the afternoon of September 3 for the first Town Hall of the school year. Town Hall happens once a month and is a time for Salem sibs to congregate and converse in Hanes Auditorium. Led by our Student Government Association (SGA), schoolwide concerns are addressed and clubs are given a platform to announce upcoming events.
Town Hall was kicked off this year with a pep rally from Carver High School’s marching band and dance team, which resulted in quite the cock-a-hoop reaction from Salem students sitting in the crowd. Salem flags were flown, and cheers were sung. The Salem Spirits were feeling very spirited by the end of the performance as the Student Government Association began the official business part of the gathering.
This year’s Student Government Association is led by a respectable and honorable group of accomplished siblings. Kat Price is our SGA President, Tamsi Echendu is our SGA Vice President, Bolutife Dediare is our SGA Treasurer, Livy Anschel is our SGA secretary, Sarah Limbach is our Honor Council Chair, Alison Ketchie is our Judicial Council Chair, Nathaly Berrezueta is our ONUA President, and Tashica Bogle is our Off-Campus Association (OCA) President.
SGA announced the return of the infamous “community mic”, a privilege that allows students to use a microphone in real-time to voice their concerns to their student government. Make sure to plan and look forward to this at the next town hall in October.
As is tradition, there has to be at least one skit at a Salem College town hall. Wearing homemade togas and hats of sorts, a gaggle of Pierrettes including Venus Radoslovich, Faith Meadows, Sam George, and Alex Angelini, showcased a riveting performance as they hinted at the theme of the fall play. The Salem community roared with applause and cheers as Venus burst onto stage and massacred their fellow board members, announcing triumphantly the title of the fall play: Medea! For more information on the fall play, including showtimes and ticket prices, keep a look out for an email from The Pierrette’s board. You can also check out their Instagram: @pierrette.players
